Technology

During computer classes students will develop skills and enhance current knowledge of a variety of technological tools. Word processing software will be used to complete a variety of tasks. Spreadsheet software will be used to calculate data, write and apply formulas, and graph data. Slide presentations will be created using presentation software. In addition, Grade 8 students will create and use databases to organize, report, and display data. They will also use sort and find to retrieve data.

The computer/technology classes for K-2 will develop skills in basic computing using a variety of technological tools and software. We develop keyboarding techniques to enter data and identify relative position of letters and numbers.

We use word processing to create and print documents, paint program and age appropriate software to enhance skills taught in the classroom e.g., math, phonics, language skills, spelling etc.
We will learn how to use:
  • Letter and number keys
  • Punctuation and symbol keys
  • Simple features as; shift for upper and lower case letters
  • Locate special characters e.g., spacebar, enter, delete, return, arrows, backspace

We will identify and discuss the physical components of a computer e.g., monitor, keyboard, disk drives. Internal components e.g., hard drive, modem, and all c.p.u. related articles.

We follow the technology curriculum guide in all grades from the Diocese of Raleigh.
