| Algebra
Grade 8 This year we will be following the North
Carolina Course of Study for Algebra and take the end of
course exam in May. We will focus on solving problems using
and expanding skills from prior years. Included in the
topics covered will be solving equations and inequalities,
solving and applying proportions, graphs and functions
including linear, absolute value, quadratic and rational
expressions, and functions. With each of these topics
application of concepts will be applied to real world
situations.
Grade 7 Math
Students will continue to develop basic math skills.
These will be extended to include ratios, proportions,
percents and the relationships among them, solution of
equations and inequalities, linear functions and graphing,
spatial thinking, areas and volumes. They will learn to
solve problems arising from a real world context, and use
various models to represent numeric geometric and algebraic
concepts. We will use concepts of ratio and proportionality
to solve problems in geometry, probability and Algebra.
Grade 6 Math
We will continue to build on the foundation started in
previous years. We will compare, compute, and solve
problems with integers, fractions and decimals. We will use
variables and algebraic expressions. Among the topics
covered will be order of operations, evaluating algebraic
expressions, solving one-step equations with integers,
fractions and decimals. Particular attention will be paid
to operations with fractions. |
| Sister Catherine Anne Mullaly,
IHM Small Math Groups
I have been at St. Paul Education Center for 13
years. I enjoyed teaching for many years before I came
down from "the North". I taught in many different
schools in various parts of the country, and to various
ages of children and adults. Among the many subjects I
have enjoyed sharing with my students, math is my
favorite. I can still get excited when my students grasp
a difficult concept or achieve some significant
accomplishment in their lives. I hope to be able to
share my enthusiasm for learning with your children.
