One of the primary
goals of our middle-school language arts program at St. Paul
Education Center is to learn creatively and have fun!!!
While several aspects of language arts within each grade are
similar (Grammar, Vocabulary, Literature), each grade level
provides a stepping stone to enable students to not only
learn facts within the language arts discipline, but to
learn how to learn!
We also strive to help students develop and improve their
writing abilities, and each grade level has a slightly
different writing focus.
Overall, we seek to instill in our students a sense of
confidence and provide a solid foundation for their
secondary education. |
For instance:
- Grade 8 students focus their writing efforts on
literary analysis essays and research papers (and yes, we
begin with traditional research methods that
involve..."note cards").
- Grade 7 students concentrate on persuasive writing
techniques.
- Grade 6 students study and write comparison and
contrast, cause and effect, and other rhetorical patterns.
