The second graders begin each year with a great desire to learn and share new ideas. They are so excited about beginning a new year and learning new concepts. They enjoy the Math meeting board, which includes the months, temperature, telling time, preparing graphs, and even birthday graphs. There are many genres in reading such as realistic fiction and humorous fiction. The selections provide practice with the target phonics skills of the week and with the high-frequency words. Spelling, Social Studies and Vocabulary books are a new experience. Wow! We also have a language book and it has so many new concepts such as syllables and contractions.

The children are happy to share experiences, make new friends, and discuss adventures. They have a great desire to become independent. We work on organizational skills and plan for a great year. In Second grade, Catholic students will receive the Sacraments of First Penance and First Holy Communion.
